Who's your daddy?

I was sitting here on the couch & said to myself... SELF, you haven't posted on your blog in FOREVER! I must apologize for that.

I have an announcement to make. I have a SON! My baby boy was born on Father's Day last month. As you can imagine I have been extremely busy. My lovely wife was GREAT! She was standing in the bedroom about 9:00 pm or so the night before & kept saying she was hurting. She said it felt like she was having cramps. I told her we could go to the hospital, but she didn't want to be the girl that went to the hospital & then was sent home. I said I was going to go to sleep & if she needed me then she was to wake me up.

At 11:15 that night she woke me up saying she was hurting & we should go to the hospital. We got the bags that were already packed & got the girl (who is now 12). In my last post she was 11. She was still awake. Texting & talking to her friends on the phone. We got in the car & headed for the hospital. We were about half way there (it in only a 10 minute trip) & the wife said, "I am having another 'cramp'". I asked her when the last time was that she had a 'cramp' & she said that it was when we were in our neighborhood. I looked at her & in the rear-view mirror & said to the girl, "I think Mom is in denial" & then said to the wife that she was in labor.

We got to the hospital & she got checked in. I was texting my parents & was keeping them posted. They put the wife on a monitor & gave her an IV. They said they wanted to give her some fluids & see if she would dilate any more on her own. She was at 1 cm & had been for 3 weeks. She wasn't dialating any more & she thought we were going to go home. At 2:15 Sunday morning I asked the nurse if we were going to go home or what she said we were going to have a baby! I texted my Dad & he said they would soon be on their way to see us.

The on-call doctor was at another hospital & said to not give her any medicine that would make her dilate any faster until he got there. He showed up at 7:00 & they gave her the medicine & he broke her water. That is when the party started. The baby's heartbeat was anywhere from 105 to 145 while the wife was being monitored. When the doctor broke her water the heartbeat dropped to 55! The nurse was rolling the wife from side to side trying to get the baby to come back up to where he needed to be. They started calling in all the nurses & got the doctor back in there. I was standing in the corner out of the way & the wife was on the bed. She said the only thing that helped her stay calm was knowing that while she was praying I was praying too.

I remember, and will NEVER forget word for word the prayer that I said..."God, you know what we can handle, but PLEASE don't make us handle this." The doctor was telling the nurse to have the ER ready in case they needed to do a C-section & then he said get the NICU. That is when the wife freaked out & asked the doctor, "is my baby going to be ok?" The doctor told her it was only a precautionary measure & they were going to make sure the baby was ok. He said they may take him away to make sure he was breathing. Well, he came out screaming. They did not have to take him away. He was & is just fine. By the way, they broke her water at 7:00 & he was here at 7:37! All that action in less than 40 minutes. She pushed through 3 contractions & he was here.

I will try to post a picture or two, when I figure out how. I promise I will do better at updating in the future. I hope all of you have a good day and feel a little blessed by reading this most recent post.
